How AI is changing business intelligence

Business intelligence is on the verge of its next major evolution. AI is transforming how companies analyze data, make decisions, and manage processes. Traditional dashboards are becoming intelligent assistants, and reports are turning into concrete recommendations for action.

At BI & BBQ 2026, we will show you what this means for businesses, with a concise keynote followed by two practical workshops—you choose the one that interests you most. Afterward, join us on our rooftop terrace for a BBQ, networking, and conversations about the future of BI.

Business Intelligence in transition – From dashboards to decisions

Power BI. Tableau. Chat interfaces. Vibe coding. MCPs. Agents. The BI world is currently exploding in every direction, and every new term sounds like the next big revolution.

But what will actually last? What will change BI for the long term? And what is simply a new interface for old problems? We’ll sort through what’s happening right now so you don’t have to. Because the most important development isn't in any single tool. BI is shifting from dashboards to a capability within the workflow. Insights are becoming available exactly where decisions are made. And they no longer end with a number, but with an action.

A deviation triggers a process. An insight becomes a task. "What happened?" turns into "What happens now?"

Your speaker
Stephan Dahlmann
Managing Consultant

As a Managing Consultant in Business Intelligence, Stephan sees himself as an enabler who provides decision-makers with access to data-driven insights. He is particularly motivated by the challenge of diving into new, complex business areas and processes to translate their data into valuable insights. Regarding AI, he focuses on creating the right data and framework conditions, and establishing governance that allows AI to be used responsibly and scalably.

Choose your workshop

After the keynote, we will split into two workshop groups. Please select the workshop that interests you most when registering.

Workshop 1
Decision Intelligence: When dashboards think along with you

Most BI reports stop right where things get interesting: at the point of decision.
This workshop flips the script. We don’t view dashboards as the end point, but as the starting point.

Together, we will examine classic dashboards, analyze which decisions and processes are actually built upon them, and determine what is essential for those decision-making processes. Building on this, we will clarify what the report can achieve, what will be handled by process automation in the future, and where decisions can be prepared automatically or delivered directly. For decision-makers who want to turn BI from a passive report into an active tool.

Workshop 2
Hands-on MCP

AI, Claude, MCP, Power BI, efficiency – these terms are everywhere right now.
But what do they actually mean for you, and is AI making Power BI obsolete?

Let’s sit down together and take a live look: How does Claude work with a Power BI model, what happens in the background, where is it helpful, and where is it not? You ask the questions, Claude does the work. How effectively can you actually use Claude in your day-to-day life?
