How can modern controlling be digitized with Software as a Service (SaaS)?
An active data culture is essential for the digitalization of a company. However, it can only sprout and flourish if all employees have easy access to relevant databases and reports. If this is achieved via intuitive dashboards that are also embedded in the company's corporate design in customer portals, intranet or web apps, this is a best-case scenario. With the use of Power BI Services, implementation is child's play.
At bekumoo, the question arose as to how a complex controlling process based on a heterogeneous database could be fully digitized and used by stakeholders. The bekumoo platform developed by taod provides the answer based on standardized data models, modern cloud hosting via Azure and an automated Power BI connection: automated service controlling.
Since 2017, bekumoo has set itself the goal of sustainably digitalizing the automotive service and trade. The owner-managed company based in Ibbenbüren combines experts from the automotive trade with experts from software companies. With the SaaS solution developed by taod, bekumoo provides car dealerships with a tool that documents and evaluates their key business figures. For this purpose, bekumoo is connected directly to the applications used in the business. The software helps to process complex data from individual branches in a comprehensible and up-to-date manner. In service controlling, bekumoo provides important KPIs and insights for decision-makers in the service and workshop area by querying various data sources.
In an initial workshop, key requirements and initial objectives were defined. In the case of bekumoo, taod also provided business development consulting. The aim was to develop a product based on application questions and available data sources and databases. What data is available or still needed? How can it be used within the SaaS to answer questions or for business management?
Data in very heterogeneous formats is to be incorporated into the SaaS and standardized so that it can be visualized in reports at a later stage. The basis for standardized reporting is the respective merchandise management system of the car dealerships. The employees document their activities on an order-related basis, independently and transmit the data on a daily basis. This raw data is then cleansed and transformed using taod's ELT integration.
Another challenge in this context is authorization management. To ensure the highest security standards with regard to highly sensitive personal data, taod uses row level security (RLS) with Power BI and the underlying database. Row level security can be used to restrict data access for selected users. Data access at row level is restricted by filters and the filters can be defined in roles. These filters are influenced by a well thought-out role concept. For example, managers of a team can see the entire team and members of a team can only see their own performance data.
Once a uniform database is in place, the data is finally visualized and evaluated in Power BI. For bekumoo, the BI tool from Microsoft is a logical choice, as the data is hosted via Microsoft Azure due to the specific individual requirements.
As a result, the bekumoo software has been in use since January 2021 on the basis of standardized data models, modern cloud hosting and automated Power BI connection for modern controlling of the car trade.
