Dexcom Germany, a continuous glucose monitoring company for people with diabetes, is faced with the difficult task of having data managed and provided centrally by a department based in the USA, the company's headquarters. This results in processes that cost a lot of time and resources.
Together with taod, Dexcom is developing department-specific Tableau reporting that provides a comprehensive overview of sales and marketing activities as well as internal processes and takes data analysis to a higher level.

How can a central controlling instance be set up?
How are department-specific reports established?
How is agile project management used?
In the first step, a requirement recording is carried out. Based on this, an analysis is created for the department where the identified demand is greatest. In this case, it is the department that deals with approving prescriptions with health insurance companies.
In order to develop a better understanding of Dexcom, a design workshop will take place as a second step. This involves identifying key stakeholders for the project and identifying departments for which reports and analyses in Tableau are essential. Another content of the workshop is the definition of current challenges.
After all departments for which reports and analyses are of great importance have been identified in the second step, it is time to create and expand them step by step. The measures are accompanied by the development and improvement of employee competencies in Tableau, a standardization of key figure definitions and the development of a modern design as a basis.
The central challenge of this project was to develop tailor-made reporting that meets the specific requirements of the sales, marketing and internal processes departments. Due to the considerable time required for this task, taod prepared the reports in close coordination with Dexcom. This involved translating department-specific requirements into both strategic and operational measures. For example, marketing reporting makes it possible to precisely track lead development and customer acquisition from marketing activities. In sales, on the other hand, reporting can be used to adapt the distribution key to the needs of customers. In the area of internal processes, the recipe processing process was automated to ensure optimum efficiency. The overall goal was to set up independent and comprehensive Tableau reporting for Dexcom Germany and to empower employees to use this tool effectively.
Dexcom Deutschland GmbH wanted to set up a country-specific and independent controlling system that is no longer dependent on central data provision from the US headquarters. The aim was department-specific Tableau reporting that makes sales, marketing and internal processes more transparent and supports data-based decisions in the German market.
Prior to the project, data was managed and provided centrally in the USA. This resulted in complex processes for Dexcom Germany, which cost a lot of time and resources. At the same time, there was no reporting that specifically reflected the specific requirements of individual specialist areas in Germany.
Together with Dexcom Germany, taod developed department-specific Tableau reporting. The solution was designed in such a way that requirements from sales, marketing and internal processes are translated into strategic and operational reports and a comprehensive overview of activities and key figures is created.
The introduction began with a list of requirements and an MVP for the department with the greatest need, in this case the area for approving prescriptions with health insurance companies. This was followed by a design workshop to identify relevant stakeholders and specialist areas. In the next step, the analyses were gradually expanded, employees were empowered in Tableau, key figure definitions standardized and the project was implemented in agile two-week sprints.
Dexcom Germany now has independent controlling for the German market. The dashboards optimize three central areas in a data-driven manner: sales, marketing and internal processes.
